JDM to USDM Long Block Installation Notes
To ensure a seamless swap and prevent Check Engine Lights (CEL), follow these critical conversion steps using components from your original USDM engine:
- Cam Gear Trigger Plates: Crucial Step. You must swap the trigger plates on the cam phasers from your USDM engine to the JDM engine. The JDM pattern is different and will cause timing/sync errors if left as-is.
- Oil Pan & Level Sensor: JDM FA20DITs often lack the oil level sensor found in USDM WRXs. Swap your USDM upper and lower oil pans to maintain your oil level warning system.
- Engine Wiring Harness: Always reuse your original USDM wiring harness. JDM connectors for the alternator and various sensors may differ.
- Intake Manifold & Sensors: Transfer your USDM intake manifold, TGV (Tumble Generator Valve) assemblies, and all sensors (MAP, MAF, etc.) to the JDM long block.
- Turbo & Accessories: Reuse your USDM turbocharger, intercooler, and alternator if they are in good condition, as JDM mounting points or electrical plugs can vary slightly by year.
