This engine serves as a direct long-block replacement for the following North American models:

• Subaru Forester (2.5i Models): 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018

• Subaru Outback / Legacy: 20132018 (2.5L Models)

• Compatibility Note: This is the FB25 timing chain engine. It is NOT compatible with 2010 or older Foresters that utilize the EJ-series timing belt motor.

JDM to USDM Installation & Swap Guide

To ensure 100% “plug-and-play” functionality and maintain OBDII compliance, professional technicians recommend the following “External Swap” steps:

1. Long Block Strategy: Use the JDM motor as a long block only. You must transfer your original USDM Intake Manifold, Exhaust Manifold, and Fuel System to the JDM block.

2. Wiring & Sensors: Always retain and use your original USDM Engine Wiring Harness. Transfer all sensors (Crank, Cam, Knock, etc.) from your old engine to ensure the factory ECU receives the correct signals.

3. Oil System: Verify the oil filter location; the FB25 uses a top-mount oil filter. If the JDM housing differs slightly, swap over your USDM housing to ensure perfect fitment with your engine bay.

4. EGR System: Use your original USDM EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) components to prevent emissions-related fault codes.
