This engine is a direct long-block replacement for the following North American models:
Toyota Corolla XRS: 2005, 2006
Toyota Matrix XRS: 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006
Pontiac Vibe GT: 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006
Toyota Celica GT-S: 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005
Compatibility Note: This is the High-Output 2ZZ. It is not a direct replacement for the standard Corolla CE/LE/S (1ZZ-FE) without a full ECU and wiring conversion.
To ensure 100% compatibility and maintain your Corollas performance electronics, professional technicians recommend the following “External Swap” steps:
Lift Bolt Maintenance: While the engine is out, we strongly recommend installing new Revised Toyota Lift Bolts. This inexpensive part ensures your “Lift” transition remains seamless and prevents future mechanical failure common in the 2ZZ platform.
Intake & Exhaust Manifolds: You must transfer your original USDM Intake Manifold and Exhaust Manifolds. JDM versions may have different vacuum port locations or lack the specific air injection/EGR ports required for North American emissions compliance.
Wiring Harness: Always retain and use your original USDM Engine Wiring Harness. JDM harnesses are configured for right-hand drive and will not interface with your Corollas chassis or ECU.
Sensors & Injectors: Transfer your original USDM Knock Sensor, Water Temp Sensor, and Fuel Injectors to the JDM block. This ensures your original ECU reads perfectly calibrated data.
Throttle Body: For 20052006 Corolla XRS models (which utilize Drive-by-Wire), you must transfer your original USDM Electronic Throttle Body to the JDM intake setup.
